Tyco Hamble Winter Series Wrap Up |
|
| Once again the 1720 Fleet have benefited from the most exciting and closest racing of any class out on the water for the 2004 Tyco Hamble Winter Series. Going into the last day of racing, there were four boats all within two points of each other, and this meant that the series was therefore still wide open with two races yet to sail. With this in mind, the 1720 Class gathered for an evening of quiet reflection at their spiritual home on the Solent, the Square Rigger. Because Ian Atkins of Boats.com was narrowly leading the series at this point and in an act of selfless support (so typical of the 1720 sailor), the entire Class respectfully donned moustaches 'a la Atkins' for the night, as a show of solidarity for the hursuit yachtsman (see below). Anyway, an exciting morning on the water followed an eventful evening; two races were sailed - everything at stake: The full results can be found at www.hrsc.org.net. At the end of two races the first 4 boats all finished on 35 points - too close to call. On the sail home the calculators came out but no-one could be sure... This is how it looks on countback: 1. Ian Atkins - Boats.com 2. Charlie Frize - The Big L 3. Andy Smith - Twister 4. Key Yachting - Ruairidh Scott, Des Faherty, Geoff Carveth, Chris Proudlove etc etc... Well done to Ian Atkins and his crew. Our mostachiod hero more than deserved his win. Thanks to all for such great sailing this year - we are looking forward to the Southampton Frostbite series in January!! << Back |
